Familiars are companions with an effect on a unit. Vanguard familiars can come from Trials, shops, Adventure or events and cannot be traded. Demon Fusion is a separate category.

Vanguard familiar sources

Trials were added in Update 14.0 part 2 and remain one Vanguard source, but they are not the only one. The checked data also records Adventure proficiency, event shops and other shops. Most unit Trials use an assigned loadout, while Roku (Super 3) uses your own team. Demon Fusion familiars such as Chosen Savior are not Vanguard Trial rewards.

I opened the Trials page and matched two rewards before I wrote this: Smith John's trial pays the Disguising Mask familiar, and Dawntay's trial pays the Familial Jewel. I am not listing a drop rate I did not read.

FAQ

Can I trade familiars?

The FAQ says any familiar except Vanguard familiars can be traded, and only at level 50 or higher.

Where do I get a Vanguard familiar?

Use the source for that entry: Smith John pays Disguising Mask, Dawntay pays Familial Jewel, Yomomata Adventure rank 10 pays Burning Blade, and some entries are shop or event rewards.
